SSH & SFTP Access¶

Overview¶

Unlike a traditional hosting environment, ssh & sftp access is not available directly for containers. To be able to offer this convenience, we deploy a special ssh container inside your project.

Finding your login details¶

To view the connection details, you will navigate to your Container Service and look for the section titled "SFTP & SSH Details". If you just deployed your service, you may have to wait for a few minutes for this to appear.

You can use either an SFTP client like Transmit, or connect directly via SSH.

If you connect via SSH, you will find many of the most common tools such as: git, vim, npm, wpcli, and compose.

You may also use this SSH container as your bastion portal to your other containers within that deployment.

Changing your password¶

To replace the SSH password, click Rotate next to the password in the "SFTP & SSH Details" section. The link is shown while password login is enabled. A new password is generated and the SSH container is rebuilt, because the password is only applied when that container is created. The rebuild disconnects any open SSH, SFTP and cloud shell sessions, and the new password works once the rebuild completes. Host keys are kept, so your client won't warn about a changed key.

While the server running your project is in maintenance or offline, the password can't be rotated, and the portal explains why. Try again once the server is back online. Turning password login on or off during maintenance is saved, and takes effect when the SSH container restarts after maintenance ends. See Server maintenance and outages.
